Skywatch: Fog Moving In

Monday night we experienced thunderstorms and and earthquake. Fortunately, the most severe thunderstorms were to our north and east -- and the quake was minor.  We felt a brief tremor, but that was all.

Tuesday morning dawned partly cloudy. Our sky seemed well on its way to clearing after the passage of a new cold front. Not so. An hour or so after sunrise, fog/clouds quickly covered our ridge. My wife captured this shot while on her morning walk. When she left the house, it was partly cloudy. When she returned, it was so foggy she could barely see our outbuildings. Our sky finally cleared again during the middle of the afternoon.

Sure looks foggy. I hope the earthquake wasn't too scary. We've been having unbelievable warm weather. Spring seems like it's already here.

During the summer months, at my island home, when the fog rolls in I celebrate it's arrival. I live in a hollow, and my driveway is a semicircle all the way around the back of my house. Beyond the driveway, my meager 2.5 acres goes uphill. I feel like I'm in the bottom of a bowl, all hemmed in safe and sound. Often, I can't see beyond the immediate perimeter
of my yard. No earthquakes, and believe it or not, very few thunderstorms! ~karen

Nice photo, Jo. I rather like fog... when I don't have to drive in it. Fog, settled in the hollows, or upon the crest of hills, can be a beautiful thing.

Gosh -- she needs to be careful walking out in that fog! (WE used to get a lot in Oregon when we lived there. Some people loved it because of the softness and the feeling of being blanketed -- I am not fond of it. Which may be part of why we are in Florida now.)

But your picture is lovely and perfectly captures the foggy misty feeling.

Great photo.. My teenage daughter and her friends are saying that they felt the earthquake here in Springfield, MO.. I didn't feel a thing, I guess my imagination is not as keen as it was when I was younger!

Really interesting shot with the clouds and hills in the background. I never would have thought you would have earthquakes there.
