Sweet shot. Is this guy in the genus Batyle? I had the fortune to photograph a fire backed batyle beetle whose body and antennae were shape like this, yet colored jet black with the exception of a scarlet thorax. It was quite the looker. I love insects and can't wait for them to start emerging from their winter hiding places. Excellent photo, thank you for sharing.
I'm not positive on the ID, Tom. This shot was taken when the camera was new and I was more into just taking macros -- before I got hooked on trying to ID what I took.
That said, it is probably a Goes pulverulentus, a hardwood bore that's common around these parts. Like this one I took last summer.

So I will circumvent, via here... A day ago you twitered; "Yikes, I just saw my shadow -- in profile." Now this just _begs_ a request for a photo! I'd say yikes if I saw mine in profile too! But you said it first. So, you *have to* show a photo of your shadow.
Great photo. I love Cerambycids. Nice post for a nasty winter day. I'm feeling that it will be far too long before I can get outside to look at bugs again.
