Large Tolype Moth

Tolype velleda – 7670

Range: Nova Scotia to central Florida, west to Texas, north to Ontario.

Life cycle: Only one generation per year. Usually a late summer or fall species.

Food: Larvae feed on leaves of a variety of broadleaf trees and shrubs.

  2. My husband (who's not scared of anything) detests moths... This one would definitely give him the jitters! I, on the other hand, think it's interesting, unusual...and very furry!

  3. Lovely moth, nothing like what we get over the pond here in the UK, the season is nearly up for moths but a few species are still hanging on!

  7. I found one of these outside my door - so gorgeous! I live in Reston, VA on the third floor of a condo building. I saw it resting in a couple different places but it finally died outside my door. I have never been so impressed by a moth!
