A widespread moth found throughout most of North America, Central America, West Indies, also parts of Eurasia, Africa.  Adults take nectar.  Larvae feed on a wide variety of plants.

Pandorus Sphinx Moth (Eumorpha pandorus)



Range: A fairly common sphinx moth (Sphingidae) in eastern and central North America.

Wing span: 3 1/4 - 4 1/2 inches (8.2 - 11.5 cm).

Caterpillar hosts: Grape (Vitis), ampelopsis (Ampelopsis), and Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus).

Adult food: Nectar from flowers including petunia (Petunia hybrida), bouncing bet (Saponaria officinalis), and white campion (Lychnis alba).

White-lined Sphinx Moth (Hyles lineata)



The White-lined Sphinx (Hyles lineata) is a common sphinx or hawkmoth that ranges from Central America north through Mexico and the West Indies to most of the United States and southern Canada. It also occurs in Eurasia and Africa. Both the adult and caterpillars feed on a wide variety of sources. Adults usually fly at dusk, during the night, and at dawn, but they will also fly during the day. Wingspan averages around three inches (7.5 cm).
