Even though Saturday's temperature climbed into the mid-sixties, there was still a little bit of ice left on the water fall below the house.
Standing directly beneath the waterfall would have meant risking being impaled by a falling icicle -- not a good way to go.

Yes, I did try to get a photo of a falling water drop. No, I did not succeed. This is as close as I got.
You got some nice photos, Marvin. The last one, the drop, probably has you in there somewhere. Being impaled by ice isn't good but the ice would melt.

Love those ice shots. I would sure hate to be under one of those when it fell. Ooooo that water droplet is great. Maybe you will get one dropping next time.

ReplyDeleteThe drop is beautiful, particularly the detail in the foreground vs. the general blur of the background.
ReplyDeleteThe icicles remind me of those generated along the Niagara Gorge (from the Falls on downriver.) Of course, those were sometimes practically the size of a small house & probably weighed hundreds of pounds, but I digress. I'll have to see if I can dig up an old picture of them. Fortunately the Gorge is pretty inaccessable all Winter, so no one gets killed.

Icy waterfalls intrigue me. I wonder how many people have been stabbed by falling icicles? I recall seeing some icicles once, that were a foot across, and 6 or so feet long, and each icicle hung there seperately.

ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic when enlarged... I have not seen ice like that in the UK since I was a small boy. I can remember being in awe at large icicles.. I rarely see them now.

Taking pictures of ice requires just the right light. You had it! The tear drop is perfect and the reflections in it are superb! I can see the drop just leaving...ahhh.

Seems I saw a CSI/murder-type show where somebody was killed using ice "bullets" that melted and made detection difficult...somehow I think they'd find one of those icicles. Great shots, especially that last one! Failure indeed...not!
