Spiderwort (Tradescantia sp)

Spiderwort (Tradescantia sp)
(probably Tradescantia ernestiana)

Spiderwort is a native herbaceous perennial common to the central US. It prefers full to partial shade with medium to wet soil and is often found growing at the edges of woodlands. There are several different species of spiderwort and these can be difficult to distinguish without either a lot more experience than Jo and I or side by side comparisons.

Wow! Your spiderwort is really blooming now? Mine doesn't even show green yet.

Just a wee bit of green showing on my spiderwort. Seems as if everyday I am seeing more buds as the parade of Spring flowers continue.
I am looking forward to the kitchen garden this year. We are growing beets and leeks.
The lettuces are just about ready to snip.

Nice photos. I don't have this wildflower for some reason but my neighbor does. It is a lovely shade of blue.

I am very fond of Spiderwort, and have a clump of it on the side of one of my lily beds. I first noticed this plant growing along side the rice fields in the Stuttgard (AR) area and admired it. A good friend dug some for me and it's had a home in my yard ever since.

Nice photos.

It grows wild here in FL. I have been digging up clumps of them and planting in my yard. The honeybees gather pollen from them early every morning. Love free native stuff.
